After you arise from your turkey-induced coma this week, you may want to check out what’s going on here at Marple. December 1 at 10:00AM is Socrates Cafe in our meeting room. We’ll be discussing our predictions for next year, including what we think President-Elect Obama should concentrate on for his first year in office. As usual, regular and decaf coffee from Starbucks will be provided. December 3 at 10:00AM is our last Tea at Ten program for the year, “Spotlight on New Books”. Librarians Tricia and Jen have read a bunch of new and recent releases, and can’t wait to tell you all about them – without giving away the endings, of course! And Marple’s Children’s department is hard at work scheduling more storytimes and special craft programs for the end of the year.  As always, we’ve got lots of new release books, DVDs and music to keep you occupied until the end of the year. Come and see us soon.

Gatsby Dinner was a Great Success!

A big THANK YOU to everyone who attended last week’s Fall For A Book: Gatsby Dinner. Everyone who attended had a great time, mingling with fellow readers of The Great Gatsby, devouring a delicious meal prepared by the staff at Charlotte’s Restaurant, and listening to the night’s speaker, Dr. Peter Schmidt of Swarthmore College. A few attendees even came in costume! Here are some pictures from the dinner. floraz1jen12debfriedacarmenritagdrpeterschmidt1bookgroup21

It is a nervous time of the year for me, especially this year with the economy in such turmoil.   Please support our fund drive this year.  More people than ever are using Marple Library, in large part because of this economy, and we need your help to meet those needs.  Fund drive forms can be picked up at the library or at our website www.marplepubliclibrary.org . Print out a form and send it in or click on “Support Our Library Through Online Giving” and use your credit card to donate.  Thank you.

Lots to do this week

This first week in November is pretty full, with the Presidential Election and all. We’ll be open all day, so please be sure to stop by and catch up on your reading/viewing/listening favorites. Wednesday should be our busiest day of the week, with a children’s program in the morning, a visit from author Chris Bohjalian at 3 in the afternoon, and then Ragtime Jazz and Stride Blues with Bradley Litwin at 7 in the evening. I hope to post a few photos from the events to the blog for those of you who can’t attend.

Space is still available for Chris Bohjalian’s visit and Bradley Litwin’s visit. Please sign up via EventKeeper for either program.
